• “The most innovative small pub group in the land”
    Alastair Sawday

Head chef Corin Earland was, until last Summer, head chef at The Fishes near Oxford. While he was there the pub won awards for its Sunday roast and was named Al Fresco Dining Pub of the Year. Corin also won a prestigious Acorn Award, which recognises the rising stars of the food world. He came out front of house to help launch The Almanack and, after three months travelling, is now back in the kitchen serving a summer menu featuring both retro & modern pub dishes and some more sophisticated options.

The Almanack serves great food all day long, no matter what you're hungry for.

Get the day off to a cracking start by popping in for breakfast. Enjoy one of our great coffees or freshly brewed teas and help yourself to free toast on the bar. The full Almanack breakfast also takes some beating - great free-range sausages and bacon baps, American style pancakes with maple syrup and butter as well as the Almanack hash with poached free-range eggs. It's available every day from 8am. We also serve delicious home-made cakes and milkshakes for the children, too.

If you’re looking for a speedy lunch, try our Roast of the Day – great quality roast meat with special vegetable dish of the day, carved to order & served straight away if you need to eat & run. After work, grab a seat at the island bar & share a deli board with a friend over a drink. Or celebrate a family birthday with a full three courses at one of our lovely vintage rosewood tables with the big curved booth seats.

Our meat is all free range and comes from award-winning local butcher, Aubrey Allen. Other ingredients are sourced from producers who take pride in their products & an ethical stance in their production. Our menu will always make the most of the best seasonal ingredients (this ensures we avoid air-freighting and keeps us in touch with the cycle of the year) to maximise freshness, quality & value.

We don’t have a children’s menu, because we think they should have the opportunity to eat a full range of good food. Corin will be happy to make smaller portions or simplified versions of anything on our menu at half the adult price.

We have well-kept real ales on tap from local Stratford-on-Avon brewer, Purity, as well as Continental lagers including Staropramen, Leffe & Hoegaarden.

We don’t believe a pub is the place for a leather-bound tome so our short wine list is accessible and sensibly-priced. We’re as keen to impress you with the quality of our house Merlot as with a classy Gavi di Gavi so we work very hard to choose the best wines we can find at every level. We have recently persuaded the producer of two of our most established & popular wines to supply them to us on draught so that we can serve it by the glass or by 50cl carafe. This is saving up to 15% of the bottles we have previously used and thrown away every month, with all the associated waste of energy & resources, while delivering exactly the same quality wine.

We also serve exceptional spirits at pub prices, pouring Beefeater gin and Absolut vodka as standard, and have great cocktails plus half price champagne on Thursdays.
